Pet Groomer & Salon Trainer at PetSmart

Overview

PetSmart’s Salon Experience Lead (Groomer & Salon Trainer) is responsible for providing exceptional service to pet parents and supporting a high performing team while upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. The role delivers professional grooming services with a focus on quality and care for pets and supports the development of bathers and new stylists through the pet stylist development program.

Qualifications

• 2+ years grooming experience; may be asked to complete a technical exam.
• Full time availability required, flexibility in schedule, able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Proficiency with use of tools, equipment and products to perform technical work safely.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and safety measures.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates the associate experience and supports associate development, including training, onboarding, mentoring, coaching for growth, and contributing to performance reviews and promotions.
• Develops new and existing associates through bather and/or stylist certification.
• Identifies candidates internally to attend academy training to become stylists.
• Delegates and validates completion of daily salon tasks.
• Addresses and administers associate complaints and grievances.
• Recognizes and celebrates associates to drive engagement.
• Ensures a positive pet parent experience over the phone, in person, or online; responds to pet parent concerns.
• Greets and supports pet parents, answers questions, and recommends wellness solutions based on pets’ needs.
• Engages with pet parents at checkout to drive connection and rebooking.
• Drives engagement around marketing promotions; uses salon tools (booking system, call logs) for reservations and appointment calls.
• Maintains store standards and a culture of empowerment; ensures compliance with policies, procedures, and code of ethics.
• Performs full menu of bath, brush, grooming and standalone services (e.g., nail trims, teeth brushing, sanitary services) per PetSmart standards.
• Promotes growth of salon sales to achieve targets and other salon metrics.
• Maintains cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions for all pets in the grooming area.
• TAkes immediate action and reports when sick/injured pets are identified; transports to vet as needed.
• Communicates business trends and shares best practices with leadership; reports facility or supply needs.
• Recommends, informs, and sells services and merchandise.
• Assists in other departments as required. Other duties may be assigned.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Standing, walking, ladder use; handling, feeling, writing with hands; occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching; depth perception required.
• Lift/move up to 50 pounds regularly; up to 100+ pounds with team lift.
• Exposure to moving parts, wet environments, pet hair; moderate noise with possible higher noise levels; exposure to live animals.
