Job summary

Petco is seeking a Pet Stylist to provide expert grooming services for customers’ pets. You will deliver baths, trims, nail care and styling with attention to safety and animal comfort.

Ideal candidates have Pet Stylist Apprenticeship or grooming experience, strong breed knowledge, and a passion for animals. Weekend/evening shifts and on-site grooming duties are required, with growth opportunities within the grooming salon.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program with Petco, or previous grooming experience.
• High-school diploma or GED preferred, though not required.
• Latitude for independent judgement and problem solving with guidance from leadership when necessary.
• Results-driven with commitment to productivity and ownership of role in the grooming salon.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure grooming services meet high standards.
• Genuine passion for animals and desire to continue a career in pet grooming.
• Expert knowledge of various dog breeds, grooming requirements and behaviors.
• High level of proficiency in breed-specific cuts and styling.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for interactions with pet parents and team.
• Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.

Responsibilities

• Perform professional grooming services including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning.
• Operate and maintain grooming instruments such as clippers, blades, shears, brushes and dryers.
• Prioritize safety and well-being of every animal in the salon and report concerns.
• Evaluate coat type and temperament to tailor grooming.
• Interact professionally with pet parents and offer grooming recommendations.
• Educate pet parents on at-home care and maintenance products.
• Maintain a clean and safe grooming area and sanitize tools.
• Follow Petco grooming policies and standards for quality and safety.
• Assist, train or supervise entry-level trainees when needed.
