Job summary

Petco Grooming is seeking a Pet Stylist to provide professional grooming services for clients' pets, ensuring they look and feel their best.

As a Pet Stylist, you will perform bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts, nails, and more while prioritizing animal safety and customer satisfaction. The role offers a dynamic work environment with weekends/evenings possible and growth opportunities within the grooming salon.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program with Petco, or prior professional grooming experience.
• High-school diploma or GED preferred, not required.
• Independent judgment and problem-solving skills in routine to moderately complex situations.
• Results-driven with commitment to productivity and ownership of the grooming role.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure high grooming standards.
• Genuine passion for animals and desire to continue a grooming career.
• Expert knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, and health considerations.
• Proficiency in breed-specific cuts and grooming techniques.
• Strong verbal and written communication with pet parents and team.
• Capacity to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments; weekend/evening/holiday availability.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional grooming services including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning.
• Operate and maintain grooming instruments: clippers, blades, shears, brushes, dryers.
• Prioritize safety and well-being of every animal; monitor for discomfort or illness.
• Assess coat type, skin conditions, and temperament to tailor grooming.
• Interact professionally with pet parents; offer grooming recommendations and address questions.
• Educate customers on home grooming maintenance and care products.
• Keep grooming area clean and safe; sanitize tools and equipment; follow sanitation policies.
• Adhere to grooming policies and standards to ensure consistency and quality.
• Mentor or supervise entry-level trainees when needed.

Education

Pet Stylist Apprentice program or prior grooming experience

High-school diploma or GED preferred

Independent judgment & problem solving
