Job summary

Petco in California is seeking a dedicated Pet Stylist Apprentice to deliver professional grooming services, including baths, trims, nail care, and safety-focused care for every pet.

As part of the Petco Grooming team, you’ll work with supportive leadership, access grooming tools and supplies, and develop skills through hands-on training, mentorship and career growth opportunities. Competitive hourly pay and benefits are offered. Weekend availability is required.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program with Petco, or previous experience as a professional groomer and/or completion of a technical grooming training program
• High-school diploma or GED preferred, though not required
• Latitude for independent judgement and problem solving, using grooming skills to solve problems in routine to moderately complex situations, with some guidance from supervisor when necessary
• Strong attention to detail and passion for animals; ability to follow breed standards and grooming guidelines

Responsibilities

• Perform professional grooming services including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning
• Operate and maintain grooming instruments
• Prioritize safety and wellbeing of each animal and report concerns promptly
• Interact professionally with pet parents and provide customer service and grooming recommendations
• Maintain a clean and safe grooming area and sanitize tools and equipment
