Qualifications

This job assesses patients and safely performs PET procedures in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and protocols. Serves as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students.

Education

Required - Completion of an approved nuclear medicine program.

Work Experience

Required - None.

Preferred - Positron emission technology experience.

Certifications

Required - Registered in Nuclear Medicine by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or equivalent body as recognized by the American College of Radiology (ACR) or Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Nuclear Medicine Laboratories (ICANL).

Registered in CT by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB), or registry eligible with a temporary work permit that allows the licensed and certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist to work toward the ARRT-CT certification.

Current unrestricted license in the state of practice.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (on call availability) and travel between facilities.

Job Duties

  • Verifies physician order and procedure to ensure accuracy.
  • Uses radiology information systems to facilitate care.
  • Explains procedure to patient to ensure understanding.
  • Operates equipment independently to complete imaging procedures according to protocol, including IV placement and radiopharmaceutical administration.
  • Reviews patient images prior to transmission to ensure diagnostic quality.
  • Performs quality control procedures in compliance with standards and addresses issues as needed.
  • Assists in departmental operations such as inventory, staff scheduling, and equipment maintenance.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, respecting privacy and ensuring effective communication.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
