Job summary

City of Burlington, NC seeks a part-time Animal Care Specialist to provide daily care and behavioral enrichment for shelter pets at Burlington Animal Services. You will assist with examinations, vaccinations, and medication administration, and support visitors and pet placement efforts.

Strong animal-handling skills, teamwork, and attention to detail are essential. A Fear Free Certification within six months is required, with preference for previous animal welfare experience.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Fear Free Certification (within first 6 months of employment).
• Preferred: previous animal care experience in professional settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily care and behavioral enrichment of shelter pets.
• Assist with examinations, treatments, and veterinary procedures.
• Monitor health, administer medications, and report changes.
• Support visitors with pet admissions, lost pet recovery, and placement.
