Job description

PEST MANAGEMENT TECHNICIAN I

Interviews will take place the week of October 12, 2026.

Selected candidates will be hired at Step 1 $55,785.60 of the salary range. County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for Step Placement in Accordance with Compensation Ordinance 1.3.5.

Future Salary Increase

June 2027 - 4.70% increase to base pay (3% Across-the-Board + 1.70% Market Adjustment)

Pest Management Technicians are responsible for understanding and using integrated pest management techniques to manage or eradicate a wide variety of pests infesting county agricultural areas, right-of-ways, airports, open space lands, and other county facilities such as office buildings, hospitals, institutions and detention facilities. Pest Management Technicians use a variety of herbicides, insecticides, and rodenticides routinely to address general pest issues, as well as responding to all bee complaints on County property.

Hiring Process and Timeline

I. Job Offer and Background Process begins: Shortly after the interviews.

Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.

II. Pre-Employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.

III. Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

Minimum Qualifications

1. An associate's degree in biological or environmental health sciences from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency, or equivalent academic course work; OR,
2. A high school diploma or equivalent, AND, one (1) year of full-time, paid experience in controlling insects, nematodes, rodents, weeds and/or plant diseases.
