Job summary

Job description

Position Overview

The Integrated Pest Management Technician provides comprehensive pest management to the Berkeley campus using the safest, most effective and environmentally friendly methods available.

Responsibilities

Field Duties

  • Using Integrated Pest Management techniques, provide safe, effective, and efficient services to multiple locations (including student housing, child care facilities, museums, research facilities, libraries, Intercollegiate Athletics, Recreational Sports, and other auxiliaries).
  • Work closely with clients to advise on resolving or preventing future pest problems in areas such as sanitation, storage, exclusion, and other control methods.
  • Ensure routine, high-quality service and verify client satisfaction through inspections and communication with managers and other appropriate individuals.
  • Advise crafts personnel and building managers on structural modification measures to exclude pests.
  • Accumulate required CEUs to maintain a QAL or QAC Category A or Structural Branch 2 license and maintain knowledge of pest management practices by attending trainings and reviewing information.
  • Provide backup for other pest management technicians as needed.

Administrative Duties

  • Plan and schedule pest management duties for the week.
  • Generate accurate and timely records using appropriate forms, including timesheets and inspection reports with date/time, findings, control measures, chemicals used, and recipient of the service record.

Safety

  • Attend job-related and safety training as required.
  • Adhere to university and departmental safety guidelines.

Other Duties

  • Perform other duties as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Skills, knowledge, and ability to apply Integrated Pest Management to provide safe, effective pest management to campus entities.
  • Exceptional communication skills; ability to verbally communicate and write information to clients; ability to write detailed, concise reports and correspondence.
  • Customer service skills and ability to work with a diverse campus population in politically sensitive situations.
  • Expert knowledge of pest management techniques, including biology, sanitation, exclusion, education, habitat modification, pest prevention, building design, wildlife management, pesticide safety, and least toxic pesticides.
  • Knowledge of solving pest problems in sensitive campus environments (research labs, animal facilities, museums, rare book collections) without affecting data or collections.
  • Ability to coordinate solutions with different units of physical plant, building managers, and outside agencies.
  • Knowledge of county, state, and federal regulations regarding pesticide application, storage, and use.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team.
  • Pre-employment medical physical required.
  • Must be available to respond to emergencies, work on-call, rotating swing shifts, and holidays.
  • Adherence to Facilities Services work rules and Code of Conduct; maintain and renew Qualified Applicator’s License.
Education / Training
  • Bachelor's Degree and/or equivalent experience/training (Preferred).
Licenses / Certifications
  • Valid DPR Qualified Applicators License A (QAL Category A) or valid Branch 2 Field Representative License (Required).
