Job Description And Duties

Under the supervision of the Personnel Supervisor I, the Personnel Specialist must have the knowledge and ability to effectively apply rules and regulations concerning personnel transactions, payroll, personnel documents and related personnel functions. Gather data, inform employees both verbally and in writing of their benefits and benefit documents. Have basic knowledge of computer systems, ability to write and communicate effectively, use tact and good judgment in dealing with the public and other employees, maintain personnel records and documents of a highly confidential nature to Official Personnel Files, assist receptionist in personnel, ability to organize and use effective time management; ability to analyze and research information effectively and in a timely manner. ALL APPLICATIONS WILL BE SCREENED AND ONLY THE MOST QUALIFIED WILL BE INTERVIEWED.

Limited term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).

Effective July 1, 2025 , the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires that each full-time employee receives a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027.

Applicants who completed their education outside of the US (with foreign degrees/transcripts) must obtain and submit verification of U.S. course/degree equivalency. Foreign education credential evaluation services can be found at NACES | National Association of Credential Evaluation Services.

Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, as well as a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
