Suffolk County is seeking an ambitious Personnel Analyst Trainee to learn public personnel administration under supervision. The role offers structured in-service training during a one-year probationary period, with potential to achieve permanent competitive status thereafter.

Open Competitive. Requires a Bachelor's Degree and a valid NYS driver's license. Benefits include health, pension, vacation, sick leave, and thirteen holidays.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree.
  • Candidates enrolled in their final year of baccalaureate studies may compete on a pending basis.
  • A valid New York State driver's license is required at the time of appointment and during employment.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews applications to determine eligibility for appointments, examinations and tuition reimbursements.
  • Assists in writing routine questions for examinations and item analyses.
  • Assists in position classification by reviewing questionnaires and duties statements.
  • Compiles raw data for further analysis and use.
  • Provides information to jurisdictions on eligibility for Civil Service positions and related rules.
  • Assists in conducting standard training courses and recruitment lectures.
  • Assists in writing class specifications and reviewing specifications as directed.
  • Assists in evaluating tuition reimbursement claims and conducting exit interviews.

Personnel Analyst - Trainee Position Details

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES : :The work involves learning to perform entry level professional work in public personnel administration under the direct supervision of a Personnel Analyst or Senior Personnel Analyst. The employee works closely with professional superiors in learning all aspects of work but may function with limited technical independence on the more routine aspects of work as the employee becomes familiar with them. Problems encountered are referred to a superior for direction and guidance. All work is subject to review through frequent consultation and examination of work performed. The term of probation is one (1) year, during which time employees will be required to satisfactorily complete a supervised in-service training program. After one (1) year of continuous service as a permanent Personnel Analyst Trainee, the employee in this class achieves permanent competitive status as a Personnel Analyst without further examination. ** Does related work as required.

  • Assists in compiling raw data for further analysis and use;
  • Assists in providing information to jurisdictions in matters of eligibility for Civil Service positions, employment placement and interpretation of Civil Service rules and regulations;
  • Assists in preparing and conducting standard training courses and recruitment lectures;
  • Assists in writing class specifications for titles established by the department and in reviewing specifications as directed;
  • Assists in evaluating tuition reimbursement claims and in conducting exit interviews.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

OPEN COMPETITIVE

  • Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree*.
  • Candidates enrolled in their final year of baccalaureate studies will be permitted to compete in this examination on a pending basis.

Necessary Special Requirement At the time of appointment and during employment as a Personnel Analyst Trainee and Personnel Analyst employees must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State.
