Position Summary
The Personal Trainer develops and implements individualized workout regimens and conducts fitness assessments for members. The Personal Trainer recruits and obtains personal training clientele.
Essential Functions
- Designs and implements customized fitness programs based on members' fitness levels, challenges, preferences, and goals.
- Delivers safe, effective, engaging workouts to clients.
- Contacts interested members within 48 hours, conducts meetings to discuss goals, and develops personal training plans.
- Promotes and sells personal training services.
- Knows and communicates all YMCA programs and encourages participation.
- Meets sales and client retention goals.
- Maintains visibility, approachability, and cleanliness of wellness areas.
- Inspects and reports equipment issues.
- Documents members' programs and maintains accurate records in Daxko Engage.
- Starts and ends sessions on time, attends meetings, and completes all documentation.
- Conducts fitness assessments and designs exercise programs accordingly.
- Provides safe instruction on equipment and enforces policies.
- May serve as Wellness Center Attendant, Wellness Consultant, or conduct new member orientations as needed.
- Maintains a varied schedule based on client and branch needs.
Education
High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.
Certifications and Requirements
- CPR (Basic Life Support or Professional Rescuer), First Aid, Emergency Oxygen within 90 days of hire.
- Current NCCA-accredited Personal Trainer certification required before hire.
- Candidates with a BS in Exercise Science or Kinesiology must obtain certification within 90 days.
- Complete Principles of Member Health and Wellness and technical training within 90 days.
- Maintain all certifications.
Technical Skills and Knowledge
- Ability to conduct valid fitness assessments and interpret results.
- Ability to design programs for general and specific populations.
- Effective motivation, communication, interpersonal, and sales skills.
- Maintain confidentiality, uphold YMCA values, and work effectively with diverse populations.
- Willingness to act as a mandated reporter for child abuse and neglect.
