Job summary

Ocean State Job Lot is seeking a Personal Trainer to design personalized training programs and provide support for clients during their workouts. This role involves promoting personal training services and staying updated on fitness concepts.

Job description

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design safe and effective 30‑minute to 1‑hour personal training programs for individual clients, adapting the strength training program to each person’s specific needs and abilities.
  • Provide individual supervision and reinforcement during members’ training sessions.
  • Promote Personal Training through personal example and member interaction.
  • Offer personal training services throughout the day, evening and weekends as clients request.
  • Stay current on fitness concepts and ideas.
  • Participate in fitness team meetings and engage in regular continuing education opportunities, both formal and informal to ensure ongoing learning and professional growth and development.
  • Be punctual, dependable and reliable as a trainer – have a “client first” mentality.
  • Teach group fitness activities as desired and qualified to benefit the fitness service.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Fitness Manager.
Hospital Responsibilities
  • Adheres to organization‑wide and other applicable policies and procedures.
  • Day‑to‑day performance complies with the hospital’s Service Excellence Behavioral Expectations.
  • Performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s Ethics, Compliance and Confidentiality Program guidelines.
  • Performs within his/her professional Scope of Practice at all times.
Other Duties As Assigned

  • Previous experience working with adults in a fitness or personal training environment.
  • AHA HeartSaver First Aid/CPR/AED (Adult and Infant) upon hire or within 30 days of hire.
  • For fitness training: NCCA accredited fitness certification upon hire.
  • For Pilates training: Demonstration of skills or certification from a recognized organization for Pilates upon hire.
  • Ability to interact and establish rapport with a wide variety of people.
  • Ability to give instruction, encourage and inspire.
  • Must be coachable and teachable.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • 1–2 years experience working with adults in a fitness or personal training environment.
  • ACSM Health/Fitness Instructor certification.
