DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION



Trainers will work with a wide range of client/patient capabilities from severely deconditioned to high level athletes of all ages.



Evaluates physical condition and advises, prescribes, and instructs routine and corrective exercises to strengthen muscles.



Recommends specific dietary changes to improve health and performance.



Trainers will routinely collaborate with health professions within MU Health Care and the greater community to ensure holistic care of client/patient.



Creatively and autonomously develop solutions to overcome limitations from injury/illness.



Instruct clients/patients through one-on-one or group settings about exercise activities that improve strength, cardiovascular endurance and flexibility.



Interview clients on personal fitness goals.



Develop exercise programs, tailoring workouts to client/patient needs.



Demonstrate exercise technique and equipment use. Motivate exercisers to return for training sessions at a regular intervals in leading healthy lifestyles.



Coach, motivate, and inspire members at every stage of the fitness journey.



Document prescribed exercise routines and maintain record of performance during training sessions.



Daily updates to client/patient attendance records and payment for services.



May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.


Certification in fitness training through one of the following organizations: - American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) - American Council on Exercise (ACE) - International Fitness Professionals Association (IFPA) - National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) - National Council on Strength and Fitness (NCSF) - National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association (NESTA) - National Exercise Trainers Association (NETA) - National Federation of Personal Trainers (NFPT) - National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) - World Instructor Training Schools (WITS)



PHYSICAL DEMANDS



The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs. This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
