Description

Personal Trainer – Job Description and Performance Expectations

The goal of our Personal Training department is to encourage, coach, and educate our members on the many benefits of regular exercise. As a Personal Trainer, you are responsible for motivating and inspiring clients by setting goals, providing feedback and accountability, and creating enjoyable and effective fitness experiences. This is a front-line position where you connect with members, offer advice, teach classes, and help maintain equipment. You have an opportunity to make a positive impact in people's lives.

Qualifications: An NCAA-accredited Personal Training Certification is required prior to employment. Candidates with a degree in Kinesiology or Exercise Science have three months from hire date to obtain certification. Common certifications include NASM, ACE, ISSA, NCSF, ACSM, and NSCA.

Responsibilities
I. Daily Operations
  1. Display a member-first attitude and create raving fans to attract and retain members.
  2. Be visible and interact with clients using smiles, names, and eye contact.
  3. Acknowledge all members, especially in the fitness center.
  4. Offer assistance, corrections, and advice appropriately.
  5. Conduct daily walkthroughs for safety.
  6. Attend fitness meetings and training sessions.
  7. Conduct personal training sessions per standards; confirm all appointments.
  8. Help clean and maintain equipment.
  9. Inform members about fitness center etiquette; strive to be accommodating.
  10. Follow all responsibilities assigned by managers.
  11. Maintain communication with team members and managers.
II. Team
  1. Recognize team members' efforts and reward with WAC Bucks.
  2. Participate in reviews and evaluations.
  3. Share ideas for department improvement.
  4. Manage scheduled sessions and inform of changes.
  5. Pursue ongoing professional development and share knowledge.
  6. Follow team policies and procedures.
  7. Be a collaborative team player.
III. Safety
  1. Address pool issues immediately for safety.
  2. Maintain CPR certification.
  3. Know safety and emergency plans.
  4. Follow incident reporting procedures.
  5. Regularly clean and organize equipment.
  6. Report facility issues promptly.
IV. Financial
  1. Communicate pricing ethically.
  2. Accurately schedule sessions for payroll.
  3. Complete payroll tasks on time.
V. Income Generation
  1. Promote programs and special offers.
  2. Help exceed fitness goals individually and department-wide.
  3. Recommend additional services at point-of-sale.
VI. Fitness
  1. Promote personal training benefits across departments.
  2. Stay informed about club programs and events.
  3. Participate in programs and activities to increase knowledge.
  4. Use program processes for creating and evaluating fitness programs.
  5. Assist in fitness events like Super Saturday.
  6. Contribute articles to WAC Magazine.
  7. Engage in community and social media promotion.
VII. New Member Integration & Retention
  1. Ensure smooth transition from sign-up to training sessions.
  2. Welcome new members and connect them to programs.
  3. Engage members within 5 feet using the WAC greeting.
  4. Create memorable, fun experiences.
  5. Follow up to ensure retention.
  6. Participate actively in retention programs.
