Personal Trainer – Job Description and Performance Expectations
The goal of our Personal Training department is to encourage, coach, and educate members on the benefits of regular exercise. As a Personal Trainer, you will motivate and inspire clients by setting goals, providing feedback, ensuring accountability, and creating enjoyable and effective fitness experiences. This role involves direct interaction with members, offering advice, teaching classes, and assisting with equipment maintenance. You have an opportunity to make a positive impact on people's lives.
Prerequisite: An NCAA-accredited Personal Training Certification is required prior to employment. Candidates with degrees in related fields such as Kinesiology or Exercise Science have three months from hire date to obtain certification. Recognized certifications include NASM, ACE, ISSA, NCSF, ACSM, and NSCA.
Responsibilities
I. Daily Operations
- Maintain a member-first attitude, creating a welcoming environment to attract and retain members.
- Be visible and engage regularly with clients and members using smiles, names, and eye contact.
- Acknowledge all members, especially those in the fitness center.
- Assist, correct, and advise members during workouts when appropriate.
- Conduct daily safety walkthroughs of the fitness center.
- Attend fitness meetings and WAC University sessions.
- Conduct personal training sessions per WAC standards and confirm appointments.
- Assist in cleaning and maintaining fitness equipment.
- Educate members on fitness center etiquette and promote a positive environment.
- Follow all directives from the Fitness Manager and General Manager.
- Maintain communication with team members and management.
- Adhere to all department policies and procedures.
II. Team
- Recognize and reward team members' good practices with WAC Bucks.
- Participate in performance reviews and evaluations.
- Share innovative ideas to improve the department.
- Manage scheduled sessions or notify management of changes.
- Pursue ongoing professional development and share learnings.
- Follow team policies and procedures.
- Support team efforts and assist wherever possible.
III. Safety
- Address pool issues immediately to ensure safety.
- Maintain CPR certification.
- Familiarize and follow Safety and Emergency Action Plans.
- Report incidents and facility issues promptly.
- Regularly clean and sanitize equipment.
- Report broken equipment or facility issues immediately.
IV. Financial
- Communicate pricing and session details ethically.
- Schedule sessions accurately in the management system.
- Complete payroll documentation on time.
V. Income Generation
- Promote participation through special offers and events.
- Contribute to exceeding fitness goals individually and department-wide.
- Recommend additional services at point-of-sale.
VI. Fitness
- Act as a liaison to promote personal training benefits.
- Stay informed about club programs and events.
- Participate in club activities to increase product knowledge.
- Use the Program Process for creating and evaluating fitness programs.
- Assist in fitness events like Super Saturday.
- Contribute articles to WAC Magazine's fitness section.
- Engage in community and social media activities to promote the club.
VII. New Member Integration & Retention
- Coordinate with member services for smooth onboarding.
- Welcome new members and connect them to programs.
- Engage members within 5 feet using the WAC greeting.
- Create memorable and enjoyable experiences.
- Follow up regularly to retain members.
- Participate actively in retention programs.
