RIVERPLEX RECREATION & WELLNESS CENTER - PEORIA, IL

$16.00 - $17.25 Hourly
Description

Duties: Under the direction of the Fitness Manager, the Personal Trainer is responsible for the following:

  • Adhering to all Peoria Park District safety and emergency guidelines.
  • Leading small group training and semi-private training classes.
  • Performing fitness assessments on clients and interpreting results.
  • Orienting new members to fitness equipment.
  • Developing and assisting clients with exercise programs.
  • Demonstrating appropriate and safe exercises.
  • Attending staff training programs.
  • Noticing and reporting any concerns regarding the Fitness Center, locker room, members, etc.
  • Openly communicating with the Supervisor regarding various RiverPlex issues. Relaying information back to clients as needed.
  • Attending mandatory department meetings and other work-related educational programs.
  • Following all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed; supporting all aspects of the Park District’s safety procedures.
  • Performing all other duties as required.

Essential Functions: The work requires periodic physical exertion in handling supplies, equipment, and materials relative to the services rendered. Prolonged standing, bending, and stooping, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds each leg of a repetitive unloading/re-loading process is required on a periodic basis. The programmed activities involve risks that are typically associated with athletic and fitness services or events, thus requiring normal safety precautions typical of the sports and fitness industry. Exposure to power requirements, chemicals, and various hand tools relative to athletic facility maintenance may be periodically required. The indoor work environment is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. A degree in Exercise Science or a related field and/or a valid Personal Trainer certification with extensive experience is preferred.

Experience: Previous experience as a personal trainer or fitness instructor.

Certification: Ability to obtain or become certified in CPR (free certification available at Peoria Park District upon hiring).

Knowledge and Ability:

  • Ability to train clients of all fitness levels.
  • Knowledge of basic principles of exercise physiology, biomechanics, and kinesiology.
  • Knowledge of basic principles of good nutrition.
  • Familiar with principles of aerobic and anaerobic training.
  • Able to work cooperatively and harmoniously with people of all age levels in an enthusiastic manner.
  • Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
