Job summary

Greater Peoria Family YMCA is seeking a Personal Trainer to guide clients toward their fitness goals using evidence-based exercise science and nutrition principles. You will conduct consultations, assess progress, and create individualized plans tailored to each client’s abilities.

The role requires certification, CPR/First Aid, and the ability to motivate clients in one-on-one and small-group settings while upholding YMCA policies and delivering safe, effective training experiences.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology or related field preferred.
  • Nationally recognized personal trainer certification required.
  • CPR, First Aid and AED certification required.
  • Personal training experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of fitness assessment and program design.

  • Conduct fitness consultations including pre-participation screening and goal setting.
  • Develop individualized exercise programs aligned with client goals.
  • Demonstrate and cue exercises to clients with proper form.
  • Monitor client progress and adjust programs as needed.
  • Maintain accurate training records and session tracking.
  • Promote personal training packages and related services.

Overview

Make a difference and guide clients on their journey to reach their personal fitness goals when you join our team as a Personal Trainer! This role utilizes knowledge of exercise science and nutrition to counsel clients on a one-on-one basis and create an individualized fitness plan that is suited to each person’s physical abilities. The Personal Trainer requires strong customer service skills as you engage with clients and answer their questions about the gym equipment, services we offer, general health questions, and more.


Responsibilities


  • Knowledge of anatomy, functional exercise, basic nutrition, and basic exercise science.

  • Ability to motivate others to improve their overall fitness and health.

  • Build effective relationships with clients.

  • Conducts fitness consultations for new clients including pre-participation screening, medical history, lifestyle questionnaire, and goal setting to assess and recommend personal training programs.

  • Develop individualized exercise programs consistent with a client’s personal fitness and exercise goals.

  • Demonstrate and teach exercises while providing feedback to a client during a session.

  • Instructs clients during personal training sessions on the safe and effective use of cardiovascular, flexibility, and strength training equipment.

  • Continually monitor and assist clients to ensure proper form is used when performing exercises.

  • Monitor progress of clients’ fitness levels.

  • Research on new exercise techniques and trends.

  • Keep accurate personal training records.

  • Track and redeem client training sessions.

  • Assists with special events related to fitness and health.

  • Promote personal training packages and related services.

  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, exercise science, sports medicine, or health related field preferred

  • Nationally Accredited Certification Required. Hold a valid certification from a nationally recognized organization, such as ACE, NASM, ACSM, ISSA, or similar.

  • Personal training experience preferred.

  • CPR, First Aid and AED Certified.

  • Knowledge of fitness, wellness, strength, and cardiovascular training.

  • Personal program design experience, and the ability to use the tools given to optimize client results.

  • Strong ability to train and manage time, motivating clients in a group setting.

  • Desire and capacity to coach all fitness levels.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS



  • Ability to conduct and demonstrate exercises and activities associated with personal training.

  • Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
