Personal Trainer
Job Location: Emilson Y - Hanover, MA 02339
Salary Range: $25.00 - $36.00 Hourly
Under the guidance of the Health & Wellbeing Director, the Personal Trainer is responsible for delivering safe, effective, and goal-oriented personal training sessions to members. This includes conducting health screenings, developing individualized exercise programs, and providing a high level of member service. The Personal Trainer will work shifts on the health & wellbeing floor, supervising the facility, upholding YMCA standards, and ensuring a welcoming, inclusive environment for all. They are also required to work with members as part of the South Shore YMCA’s Fit Commit program, supporting them in their fitness journey.
Responsibilities
- Supervise clients during training sessions with safety as a top priority.
- Conduct member screenings and develop exercise prescriptions based on member goals and fitness level, adhering to ACSM and YMCA guidelines.
- Obtain medical clearance for clients as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized training space, replacing weights and equipment used during sessions.
- Clean equipment after use to ensure a safe and hygienic environment.
- Respond promptly to emergencies or incidents, record and report all incidents to the on-duty supervisor and ensure the Health and Wellbeing Center is always supervised by approved staff.
- Collaborate with SSYMCA staff with respect and professionalism.
- Participate in all mandatory staff meetings, skill training, and pursue continuing education.
- Share knowledge and support fellow Personal Trainers, fostering a collaborative team environment.
- Review and stay updated on emergency procedures and response protocols.
- Engage with members in a friendly, professional, and approachable manner, promoting YMCA values and policies.
- Educate members on SSYMCA Health & Wellbeing policies, available programs, schedules, and facility rules.
- Actively support SSYMCA’s Child Protection Policies to maintain a safe environment for all members.
- Serve as a resource for program inquiries and direct members to the Health & Wellbeing Director when needed.
- Work with new members as part of the Fit Commit program to guide them in their initial fitness journey.
- Take pride in the facility, maintaining a clean, organized, and safe training space to enhance member experience.
- Ensure all equipment is in place and in good condition, ready for use.
- Record and report any faulty equipment directly to the Director of Health and Wellbeing.
- Track and report member usage counts according to department standards.
- Support and collaborate with volunteers, providing guidance and ensuring alignment with YMCA standards.

Qualifications
- First Aid/CPR/AED Certification (current).
- Personal Training Certification (NCCA accredited).
- Familiarity with OSHA and emergency procedures is preferred.
- Previous experience in fitness training or a related role preferred.
- Must be self-motivated with the ability to attract and retain personal training clients.
- Minimum Age: Must be at least 18 years old.
Physical Demands
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- The employee is regularly required to stand; walk and talk and hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
