Job summary

City of Evanston is seeking a qualified Personal Trainer to deliver safe, effective fitness instruction for older adults at Levy Senior Center in Evanston, IL. The position is seasonal and non-benefited, with an hourly pay rate of $50.00.

The trainer will design individualized programs, conduct one-on-one or small group sessions, and monitor progress while promoting healthy lifestyles in a welcoming community.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required and current nationally recognized certification (ACE, ACSM, NASM, NSCA or equivalent).
  • Current CPR/AED certification.
  • Two years of personal training experience preferred, especially with older adults.

  • Design and implement individualized exercise programs based on client goals, abilities, and health considerations.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group personal training sessions.
  • Instruct clients on proper exercise technique and safe equipment use.

Nature of Work
The City of Evanston is seeking a qualified Personal Trainer to provide safe and effective fitness instruction with a primary focus on older adults. Under the general direction of the Program Coordinator, the trainer will design and implement individualized exercise programs and provide one-on-one or small group training sessions to help participants improve strength, mobility, balance, and overall wellness.
This position supports the mission of the Levy Senior Center by helping members maintain an active, healthy lifestyle in a welcoming community environment.
Schedule
Hours vary based on client demand and trainer availability. Evening and weekend availability may be required. Trainers coordinate their own schedules based on personal training requests and facility availability.
Essential Duties

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Two (2) years of personal training experience preferred, especially with older adults
  • Current certification from a nationally recognized organization (ACE, ACSM, NASM, NSCA, or equivalent)
  • Current CPR/AED certification
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and provide excellent customer service
Physical Requirements
Work is performed in a fitness center environment. The position requires frequent standing, walking, and demonstration of exercises. Employees must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds and assist clients with equipment as needed.
Selection Process
Structured oral interview. Final candidates will be subject to pre-employment screening including background check and verification of certifications.
