Job summary

City of Brighton is seeking a dedicated Personal Trainer at the Brighton Recreation Center to deliver high-quality training services and promote client wellbeing. Morning, daytime, and evening shifts are available, with a focus on building knowledge, improving strength, and cardiovascular fitness.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a current nationally accredited Personal Training certification.
  • CPR/AED certification must be current or attained within 3 months of hiring.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • Must pass criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive personal training programs to help clients reach fitness goals.
  • Prepare and adapt training sessions to maximize client progress and motivation.
  • Conduct pre-session screenings and address medical concerns as needed.
  • Instruct clients with safe techniques and provide modification options for all levels.

Definition

Personal Trainers at the Brighton Recreation Center are responsible for providing high-quality personal training services to patrons that develop client knowledge, maximize workout efficiency, improve strength and cardiovascular fitness, increase endurance, and improve overall sense of wellbeing. Morning, daytime, and evening shifts are available.

Responsibilities

Develop comprehensive personal training programs and/or youth fitness programs to ensure clients are meeting progress milestones, satisfied with their workout program, and remain motivated to attain their personal fitness goals. Responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Evaluate and set environment. Remove any obstructions from the workout area. Set up music, if applicable, and adjust it to the appropriate volume.
  • Conduct pre-session screening. Address physical limitations or medical concerns.
  • Instruct participants through an exercise program using the following guidelines:
  1. Demonstrate safe and effective exercise technique.
  2. Utilize modification techniques for all fitness levels.
  3. Educate participants using auditory and visual cues.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of one nationally accredited Personal Training certification (must be current)
  • Minimum of 1-year personal training or program design experience preferred.
  • CPR/AED certification (must be current or attained within 3 months of hiring)
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • Must pass criminal background check.
Knowledge of
  • Fitness safety standards and guidelines
  • Program design.
  • Age respective session/exercise design
  • Skill modifications for various fitness levels
  • Hazards inherent to exercise and safety practices to minimize exposure.
  • Emergency protocol
Ability to
  • Understand community needs in fitness/wellness and evaluate activities according to those needs.
  • Monitor program compliance with related law, standards, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Effectively use quality customer service skills.
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with program participants, other city employees and officials, community groups, the public and media representatives.
  • Follow policies and procedures related to attendance.
  • Substitute for other fitness staff when needed.
  • Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions as outlined by management.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge in the fitness field (attend workshops, read fitness publications, visit other fitness facility classes).
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of other trainers.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
  • Ability to perform moderate physical work. To lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally more.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, ride, climb, bend, kneel, twist, and perform similar body movements.
  • Possesses hand/eye/foot coordination adequate to lead a personal training session.
  • Ability to talk and hear in person.
  • Ability to see and read instructions, manuals, recreation, and athletic programs in progress.

Receives direction from the Fitness Coordinator and Fitness Supervisor. Exercises supervision over personal training clients.
