Job summary

Assistance Plus is seeking a Personal Support Specialist to provide in-home care within a 30-mile radius. You will assist clients with ADLs, mobility, meal support, and daily tasks while ensuring safety and comfort.

The role requires irregular hours, including late days and weekends, with mileage reimbursement and a flexible schedule. No vaccine requirement is noted, supporting work/life balance for employees.

Qualifications

  • Proof of vehicle insurance at $50K/$100K and a valid Maine driver's license.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Proof of completion of the tenth grade is required. High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Entry level computer experience and must have access to email/internet.
  • PSS certification training will be provided at no cost to you.

Responsibilities

  • Follow client service plan duties.
  • Assist with personal care needs (bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, nail, hair, skin, foot care).
  • Assist with elimination needs (bathroom assistance, bedpan/urinal, catheter, ostomy, incontinence).
  • Assist with ambulation and transfers using devices like walker, cane, wheelchair, Hoyer lift, gait belt, ROM.
  • Transport clients within authorized limits.
  • Assist with meals, meal planning, shopping, or prompting with feeding.
  • Perform household duties (cleaning, laundry, errands) as authorized.
  • Observe and report changes in client health or behavior.
  • Promote a safe and clean home environment.
  • Report safety hazards; perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Personal Support Specialist (PSS) provides clients with assistance in activities of daily living (ADLs) which are outlined in the client service plan. Personal Support Specialists consistently deliver exceptional client service. The PSS will follow infection control procedures using universal precautions and will use proper body mechanics to ensure safety. The PSS will typically go to the homes of several clients during the work shift and will be responsible for transportation.This position will be required to meet the requirements of an irregular, changing schedule, working late in the day as well as on weekends and will be required to travel within a 30 mile radius of their home.Duties include and are not limited to:Following duties in clients service planAssisting client with personal care needs such as bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, nail, hair, skin and foot careAssisting clients with elimination needs such as assistance to and from bathroom or commode, assisting with bedpan or urinal, catheter, ostomy and incontinent careAssisting client with ambulating needs, assistive devices such as walker, cane, wheelchair, bed mobility, bed and chair transfers, Hoyer lift, gait belt and ROM, locomotion under professional supervisionTransporting when authorizedAssisting client with their nutritional needs including meal planning and preparation, shopping, assisting or prompting with feedingAssisting clients with household duties by practicing good housekeeping techniques such as kitchen and bathroom cleanup, dusting, vacuuming, laundry and when authorized shopping and running errandsObserving, reporting and documenting any changes in the clients physical or mental status such as eating, sleeping, and general behaviorPromoting a safe and clean environmentReporting any identified safety hazards found in the homePerforming other duties as assignedPosition Requirements:Proof of vehicle insurance at $50K/$100K and a valid Maine drivers license are requiredMust be 18 years of age or olderProof of completion of the tenth grade is required.
