Personal Lines Property Associate Underwriter

Delos Insurance Solutions, a pioneering Managing General Agent (MGA), is at the forefront of transforming property insurance in climate-affected regions. Delos is currently active in California, writing policies in areas that other insurance providers are avoiding for wildfire exposure.

Position: Personal Lines Property Associate Underwriter

You'll play a critical role in shaping the underwriting results of our property insurance portfolio. Reporting to the Head of Product and Underwriting, you'll evaluate and underwrite new business and renewals, engage with agents and internal partners, and support the development and execution of underwriting guidelines. You'll be directly responsible for identifying profitable risks and ensuring we deliver high-quality, responsive underwriting decisions across key markets.

Key Responsibilities:

Core Underwriting Execution

  • Review, assess, and underwrite new business and renewal submissions across homeowners and other property lines.
  • Handle on-going underwriting work such as inspection review, endorsements, system tasks, etc.
  • Apply sound judgment to evaluate property risk characteristics in relation to underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.
  • Identify and select profitable risks aligned with company goals while avoiding adverse selection.

Agent Communication and Relationships

  • Serve as an underwriting contact when needed for appointed agents i.e., responding to questions, clarifying risk appetite, and supporting growth of quality submissions.
  • Deliver consistent, timely, and professional communication to external distribution partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with our distribution team to onboard new agencies and provide underwriting training or support when needed.

Underwriting Guidelines and Process Support

  • Provide feedback on underwriting guidelines based on market conditions, risk observations, and competitive insights.
  • Support the development and implementation of referral authority protocols.
  • Contribute to underwriting training materials and process improvements to drive efficiency and consistency.

Qualifications:

  • 2–4 years of successful property underwriting experience or other related personal lines insurance experience with a focus on homeowners, dwelling fire, or other residential property lines.
  • Expertise in risk selection and underwriting execution or other related personal lines insurance experience (i.e. Claims, Customer Service, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills with a customer-service mindset in working with agents and producers.
  • Ability to multi-task and collaborate
  • Detail-oriented with excellent judgment in balancing risk and business objectives.
  • Proficiency with software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe, etc.

Bonus Points:

  • Industry designations such as CPCU, ARM, etc.
  • Familiarity with California property underwriting
  • Familiarity with wildfire, hurricane, or other CAT-exposed risks.
  • Experience within MGA, E&S, or non-admitted environments.
  • Passion for innovation and improving underwriting workflows.
  • Interest in how climate and data are reshaping insurance risk.
  • Active California insurance license
  • Commercial property experience
