Job description

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under the guidance of the coverage supervisor, this position is responsible for teaching and assisting clients who are dually diagnosed with a mental health diagnosis and developmental disability.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is an at-will direct service position within a program. The position is responsible for assisting and advocating for our members in meeting their expressed goals while living in the community. Staff will provide instruction to clients in the skills necessary to live independently in their home and support the client in learning advocacy skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assists assigned clients in identifying and progressing toward the achievement of client-chosen goals.
• Supports clients with developing practical housing skills and positive relationships with peers, housemates, neighbors, and landlords; and cultivating strong relationships/networks with landlords, other housing service providers, and employment resources.
• Provides consultation and assistance to landlords, property owners, and employers.
• Empowers clients in meeting their goals, including supporting opportunities for clients to make informed decisions regarding their needs.
• Instructs client in performance of various independent living skills; e.g., housekeeping, laundry, food preparation, hygiene, yard work, nutrition, budgeting, and safety.
• Instructs the client in learning how to access emergency services, mail, and phone services.
• Encourages clients to participate in the development and implementation of activities in the community.
• Completes intake process with new admissions.
• Occasionally carries a small caseload.
• Responsible for rotational after‑hours on‑call duty.
• Attends to the health, safety, and well‑being of clients.
• Provides on‑the‑spot counseling or crisis intervention as needed.
• Completes paperwork as assigned promptly.
• Provides prompt intervention in the event of a crisis, both to stop the crisis and to notify, when indicated, persons and agencies necessary for its resolution.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above is through working at least two (2) years but less than four (4) years of full‑time/equivalent experience in a mental health or related field providing direct mental health services. Lived experience is a plus.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• California driver’s license & current vehicle insurance/registration if driving; and,
• Reliable means of transportation capable of passing vehicle safety inspection if more than five years old, excluding all modes of two‑wheeled transport, inclusive of bicycles, mopeds, and motorcycles.

2 SCHEDULES

• Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM, Monday from 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM, and Tuesday from 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM & Wednesday from 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM.
• Tuesdays from 12:00 PM – 8:30 PM & Wednesdays through Saturdays from 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM.

40 hours total per week & eligible for benefits.

COMPENSATION

$20.00 – $20.81 an hour.
