Job summary

Magellan Health in the United States seeks a Personal Financial Counselor to serve military members and families at assigned installations. You will provide one‑on‑one counseling, educate on financial services, and refer to external resources.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree, 3+ years of financial counseling, U.S. citizenship and fluent English; bilingual in English and Spanish may be required. Certifications AFC/CFP/ChFC are acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal financial counseling services to military service members and their families at assigned military installations.
  • Conduct education and counseling addressing financial services, including one‑on‑one counseling, consultations with commanders or staff, briefings, presentations, and referrals to external resources.
  • Work with installation and branch Points of Contact (POC) to ensure program scope and installation needs are met.
  • Provide personal financial counseling and management services directly to service members and families.
  • Assist service members in establishing a spending plan for extended absences.
  • Develop and disseminate informational financial materials.
  • Coordinate, publicize, and provide a variety of Personal Financial Management classes/workshops spanning the military lifecycle.
  • Respond to requests for age‑appropriate classes or seminars.
  • Utilize virtual counseling or other electronic communication modes as authorized by the OSD FINRED Program office.
  • Manage duty‑to‑warn situations in accordance with DoD protocol.
  • Communicate with leadership and participate in regular individual and group supervision.
  • Participate in regular in‑services/training, quality improvement committees or other contract activities as assigned.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Job description

  • Provide personal financial counseling services to military service members and their families at assigned military installations.
  • Conduct education and counseling addressing financial services, including one‑on‑one counseling, consultations with commanders or staff, briefings, presentations, and referrals to external resources.
  • Work with installation and branch Points of Contact (POC) to ensure program scope and installation needs are met.
  • Provide personal financial counseling and management services directly to service members and families.
  • Assist service members in establishing a spending plan for extended absences.
  • Develop and disseminate informational financial materials.
  • Coordinate, publicize, and provide a variety of Personal Financial Management classes/workshops spanning the military lifecycle (e.g., arrival at first duty station, pre‑ and post‑deployment, and other career events outlined in DoDI 1322.34).
  • Respond to requests for age‑appropriate classes or seminars.
  • Utilize virtual counseling or other electronic communication modes (web‑based, secure online chat, video‑based communications, and secured video teleconference) as authorized by the OSD FINRED Program office.
  • Manage duty‑to‑warn situations in accordance with DoD protocol.
  • Communicate with leadership and participate in regular individual and group supervision, sharing information regarding trends and issues on assigned installations.
  • Participate in regular in‑services/training, quality improvement committees or other contract activities as assigned.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required (Associate degree plus 4 years of experience or high school diploma plus 6 years of experience may also be considered).
  • 3+ years of financial counseling experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and speak fluent English; bilingual in English and Spanish may be required by contract.
  • Ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 investigation.
  • Must pass the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Must hold one of the following certifications: AFC (Accredited Financial Counselor), CFP (Certified Financial Planner), or ChFC (Chartered Financial Consultant).
Salary & Benefits
  • Salary Range: $58,440 – $93,500 (based on location, experience, education, and other factors).
  • Eligibility for short‑term incentives and a comprehensive benefits package, including health, life, voluntary and other benefits.
