Job Title and Location

Personal Financial Counselor – Alaska (Grade 24) – Work Experience: Required (Financial Counseling)

Salary Range: $58,440 – $93,500 annually. Pay may be adjusted based on skills, experience, and education. The position may be eligible for short‑term incentives and a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities
  • Provide personal financial counseling services to military service members and their families at assigned military installations, covering the full breadth of personal financial counseling.
  • Conduct one‑on‑one counseling, consult with commanders or other providers/staff, give briefings and presentations, and refer participants to external resources as needed.
  • Work closely with installation and military branch points of contact to ensure the program meets scope and installation needs.
  • Assist service members in establishing spending plans for extended absences.
  • Develop and make available informational financial materials.
  • Coordinate, publicize, and deliver Personal Financial Management classes/workshops on topics across the military lifecycle, including arrival at first duty station, pre‑ and post‑deployment, and personal and career events outlined in DoDI 1322.34.
  • Respond to requests for age‑appropriate classes or seminars.
  • Utilize virtual counseling or other electronic modes of communication (web‑based, secure online chat, video‑based communications, and secure video teleconference) as authorized by the OSD FINRED Program office.
  • Manage duty‑to‑warn situations according to Department of Defense protocol.
  • Communicate with leadership and participate in regular individual and group supervision, sharing information regarding trends and issues on the assigned installation.
  • Participate in regular in‑services/training, quality improvement committees, or other contract activities as assigned or appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; may consider applicants with an associate degree plus 4 years' experience or a high school diploma plus 6 years' experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
  • 3+ years of financial counseling experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and speak fluent English.
  • English and Spanish bilingual capability required if contract specifies.
  • Ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 investigation.
  • Must pass the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process.
  • Must hold one of the following certifications: Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).
