Job summary

The Woods Services in Langhorne, PA invites compassionate professionals to join as a Personal Care Assistant (PCA). This role provides one-to-one support to students in a special education setting, focusing on daily living activities, health and behavior support, and safety.

Responsibilities include implementing behavioral goals, collecting data for behavior plans, responding to emergencies, and assisting with activities across school and residence environments.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Experience with people who are developmentally disabled, socially/emotionally disabled, and/or have challenging behaviors required.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Assists in behavioral assessments to determine a student’s current level of functioning.
• Implements approved behavioral goals and related lesson plans for the 1:1 student.
• Collects data for student positive behavior support plans.
• Responds to behavioral emergencies and supports approved behavior programs.
• Supports school-wide positive behavior strategies and daily living activities.
• Assists with activities such as art, music, health, and physical education in day programs.
• Provides 1:1 student assistance in self-care and daily living tasks.
• Maintains supervision and safety of the student throughout the day.
• Supports residential needs during recess or inclement weather when required.
• Attends training and in-service days as required by the program.

Job Summary

PCA provide one-to-one primarily non-instructional support to individual students for activities of daily living, health, behavior, etc. Assists teacher to maintain a safe classroom environment that meets the educational, physical, emotional and personal to an individual student in a special education program.

• Implement school-wide positive behavior supports throughout the day by building relationships, listening, praising effectively, and assisting student in daily activities.
• Assist in conducting scheduled activities within day program including but not limited to art, music, health and physical education classes.
• Assists 1:1 student in all aspects of self-care.
• Maintains assigned level of supervision, and escorts and monitors 1:1 student throughout the school day.
• Provides residential support for students during school recess or inclement weather needs.
• Attends scheduled in-serviced days and training courses as required by education program.
• Uses care logic to document incidents in school and in the residence.
• Collaborates and follows feedback and rules related to work setting (e.g., residence and school).
• Attends scheduled in-serviced days and training courses as required by program.
• Assist with the instruction of daily living skills in the student’s residence or school as scheduled.
• Demonstrate a good understanding of instructional techniques to promote student independence (e.g., prompt hierarchies).
• Uses escalation methods to support student problem behavior (e.g., Ukeru).
• Participates in school-based orientation, training and meetings as requested.
