Position Overview

As a Personal Banker at Provident Bank, your primary role is to establish relationships with customers and prospective customers to understand, identify, and satisfy their financial needs and to provide a positive customer experience during every branch interaction.

The Personal Banker position is dynamic, performing both transaction and sales duties. Responsibilities may vary daily based on branch needs, including processing financial transactions, opening accounts, cross-selling, tele-consulting, developing relationships, servicing accounts, check cashing, withdrawals, deposits, loan payments, greeting customers, and conducting customer needs assessments. The role may also involve researching and resolving account issues, promoting organizational products and services by referring customers internally, and meeting sales goals related to deposits, loans, and revenue. Additionally, the position includes managing cash drawers and supporting daily branch operations.

This role may be eligible for Life and Health Licensing.

All employees are expected to adhere to the Bank’s Code of Ethics, Core Values, and Mission Statement. The role works under general supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Meet sales and cross-selling goals by understanding product features and benefits to meet customer needs.
  • Promote bank products and resolve customer inquiries concerning accounts or services.
  • Refer customers for commercial products or services to appropriate managers or business partners.
  • Exceed customer expectations through active engagement and building relationships.
  • Develop and manage a book of business, expanding existing relationships and acquiring new ones.
Service
  • Identify opportunities with customers through lobby management.
  • Assist customers with digital banking technologies and refer to other lines of business as needed.
  • Maintain cost efficiency and ensure quality customer service, adhering to sales and brand standards.
  • Ensure a positive customer service experience.
Operations
  • Ensure operational and financial safety in accordance with policies and regulations.
  • Use lobby management to control and mitigate risks.
  • Verify customer identity and comply with all procedures.
  • Assist with branch operations, including transactions like check cashing, withdrawals, deposits, and loan payments.
  • Prepare and complete necessary reports for transactions.
  • Support training of other branch staff and assist the contact center during high call volumes.
  • Handle customer inquiries via telephone and provide access to safe deposit boxes.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 6 months of sales and service experience in a retail environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and demonstrate professionalism.
  • Proficient in math, analytical skills, and computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Must register as a mortgage loan originator with NMLS if applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior retail banking experience.
  • Life and Health Licenses for investment support.
Working Conditions

Primarily in retail banking branches, with potential travel and overtime. Must be adaptable to new locations and responsibilities. Physical requirements include lifting 5-25 lbs., prolonged sitting/standing, and occasional bending.
