Position Summary

Merjent, Inc. (Merjent) has exciting opportunities for Permitting/Resource Specialists with demonstrated success in the power sector to support current and future projects. The successful candidates will join our existing Power Sector, which includes electric transmission, wind, solar, and other low-carbon energy sources. Technical knowledge of federal, state, and local permitting regulations is required.

This is a full-time benefits eligible opportunity that can be based anywhere in the US. The anticipated annual salary for this position is between $77,000 and $108,000 annually, dependent upon qualifications and experience. These positions are also bonus eligible.

Responsibilities

  • Support the environmental review, permitting, and compliance process for clients in the Power Sector (i.e., wind, solar, electric transmission, battery storage, nuclear).
  • Support projects that involve analysis of the environmental impacts of proposed energy projects, including analyses to support development of environmental permit applications, plans, and environmental compliance documents.
  • Oversee environmental field surveys, including internal or external subcontractor communication, scheduling, and associated internal and external protocol development and reporting.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to achieve outcomes.
  • Assist, as necessary, with contractor relationships.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science or environmental studies, environmental engineering, geography, land use planning, or closely related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience or familiarity with permitting processes through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), federal land management agencies, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPO), state siting and routing authorities, or other federal, state, or local regulatory agencies, with preference to work completed in the identified power industries.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of experience or familiarity with project management and/or deputy project management.
  • Knowledge, interest, experience, and/or advanced degrees in environmental law, planning, anthropology/archaeology, hydrology, biology, wetland ecology, engineering, or other technical fields is a plus.
  • Excellent oral communication and technical writing skills.
  • Strong self-starter tendencies and excellent organizational/task management skills.
  • Able to adapt quickly and work well under pressure, both in large teams and one-on-one.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision and in the context of a larger team with other project managers.
  • Able to analyze, organize, and interpret data from multiple sources and translate that information into direct, easy to understand written deliverables.
  • Must be detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); technical editing experience a plus.
  • Must be willing to travel domestically as needed (0-20%), depending on the needs of the project. Field work may be required depending on background and/or interest.
