Job summary

The City of Placentia is recruiting for a Building Permit Technician to join the Building Division. This full-time position supports permit processing, customer service at the counter, and coordination with other departments.

The ideal candidate brings problem-solving skills, technical aptitude, and strong communication to ensure accurate reviews, timely inspections, and helpful service under a 4/10 work schedule.

Qualifications

• Strong problem solving and communication skills are essential.
• Experience in permit processing or building services support is preferred.
• Ability to work with the public and multi‑department staff.
• ICBO certification or equivalent training within one year of assignment is required.

Responsibilities

• Provides customer service at the building counter and over the phone.
• Processes building permits and applications; explains procedures and policies.
• Establishes permit coordination among city departments and the business community.
• Receives, logs, routes plans, verifies status, and files permits.
• Schedules building inspections in cooperation with inspectors.
• Tracks status of projects in plan check review and reports findings.
• Maintains building division records and prepares activity reports.
