The City of New York Department of Environmental Protection seeks a Principal Administrative Associate II to serve as Permits Supervisor for Borough Operations. Based in Staten Island or Manhattan, you will oversee permit processing, assign tasks, and monitor performance.

Under the Borough Manager, you will supervise Permits Unit staff, conduct performance evaluations, and ensure QA at processing intervals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years clerical/administrative experience, 1 year supervisory.
  • Associate degree and 3 years clerical/administrative experience incl. 1 year supervisory.
  • High school diploma and 4 years clerical/administrative experience incl. 1 year supervisory.
  • Education/experience equivalent with 1 year supervisory experience.

  • Use Agency software to distribute and manage Permits Unit work.
  • Monitor time & leave and CityTime; supervise subordinate staff.
  • Analyze workflow and report performance metrics to Borough Manager.

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and storm water, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. Department of Environmental Protection's (DEP's) water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City. The Bureau of Customer Services (BCS) oversees the production and collection of water and wastewater bills along with all the work required to maintain our citywide network of meters and meter reading devices. Bureau of Customer Services serves approximately 836,000 customers and collects more than $4.5 billion in revenue each year. The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) provides clean drinking water, wastewater treatment, and stormwater management for the residents of New York City. The Bureau of Customer Services (BCS) oversees metering, billing, and field inspection operations supporting more than 800,000 accounts citywide.

The Bureau of Customer Services is seeking an experienced candidate to serve as a Principal Administrative Associate II; the selected candidate will serve as Permits Supervisor for Borough Operations. Under the direction of the Borough Manager, the selected candidate will: serve as the authority on all permit related matters for all subordinate employees in the Borough Office; utilize Agency software to distribute and manage the work of all Permits Unit employees; monitor time & leave and oversee all CityTime and personnel related matters for subordinate employees; conduct performance evaluations and issue tasks & standards to all subordinate employees; analyze the Permits Unit workflow to ensure it operates at an optimal level and that productivity is adequately maintained; perform Quality Assurance checks at all Permit processing intervals and on all permits tasks; be responsible for reporting the performance metrics of the Permits Unit to the Borough Office Administrative Liaison and/or Borough Manager.

Qualifications
  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity or supervising staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty;
  2. An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience described in "1" above;
  3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a state’s department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and four years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience as described in "1" above;
  4. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above. However, all candidates must possess the one year of administrative or supervisory experience as described in "1" above. Education above the high school level may be substituted for the general clerical/administrative experience (but not for the one year of administrative or supervisory experience described in "1" above) at a rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for 6 months of experience up to a maximum of 3 year.
