Job summary

Monroe County is seeking a Permitting Clerk to assist staff and residents with permitting processes, payments, and public inquiries. The role covers acceptance through review, issuance, and closure of permits, with occasional coverage at multiple county offices.

Job duties include handling cash for the department, generating reports, and ensuring compliance with county policies and procedures. Prior related work experience is required.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED. One (1) year minimum of prior related work experience.
  • Special Qualifications: None.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to follow guidelines and perform clerical or trades-based tasks; data gathering and analysis; ability to work with multiple coworkers.

Responsibilities

  • Processes permits from acceptance through plan review, issuance, and closure.
  • Collects and properly records monies received for permitting, impact, and miscellaneous fees.
  • Issues Certificates of Compliance (CCs).
  • Assists Senior Coordinator with the coordination of Plan Examiners on code compliance issues for permitting.
  • Provides permitting information and assistance to the general public.
  • Performs permitting records research as required.
  • Generates cash receipt reports.
  • Prepares bank deposits.
  • May be required to occasionally cover different office locations (Stock Island, Big Pine, Marathon, Key Largo).
  • Responsible for personally knowing and following the County’s Personnel Policies and Procedures, Administrative Instructions, Department Operating Procedures, and applicable Statutes and Regulations.
  • The Mission of Monroe County and required compliance with policies; public disclosure policies apply.
