Job summary

The City of La Porte is seeking an Inspection Service Technician to perform a variety of technical and administrative tasks for the Inspection Services Division. This role supports plan review, permit issuance, inspections and enforcement of zoning and nuisance codes, while assisting the public and other staff.

Responsibilities include intake and logging of applications, maintaining records for court and commissions, and coordinating schedules with inspectors.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of city codes, including zoning regulations.
• English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
• Current office methods, procedures, equipment and business letter writing.
• Organization, procedures, and operating details of the City department to which assigned.
• Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Receive and record building permits, zoning permits, and related applications with fees in logs.
• Forward permits and plans to appropriate staff for handling.
• Maintain files for violations and court review.
• Perform plan review for basic roofing and zoning permits.
• Provide public with basic zoning, inspections, and ordinance information.
• Serve as primary public contact for the Inspection Services Division.
