Cedar Rapids Community School District is seeking a Permanent Building Substitute Teacher for the 2026-27 school year. This full-time position (5 days, 35 hours per week) reports to the Building Principal or Designee and pays $25.00 per hour with a TBD start date.

Responsibilities include delivering instruction according to lesson plans, maintaining a positive classroom environment, supervising students across locations, and collaborating with staff to support student learning.

Job Title: Permanent Building Substitute Teacher

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver instruction and maintain classroom routines in accordance with teacher-provided lesson plans.
• Manage classroom behavior and create a respectful and safe learning environment.
• Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, and during school-related events.
• Follow all school and district policies, including safety and emergency procedures.
• Collaborate with staff to support student learning and building-wide initiatives.
• Fill in for various grade levels and content areas with minimal advance notice.

Qualifications

• Must be an approved substitute teacher registered through the SubCentral assignment system at subcentral.gwaea.org.
• Must hold a valid substitute authorization or teaching license through the State of Iowa to register with SubCentral.

Schedule & Compensation

• Work Days: MondayFriday, seven hours per day.
• Compensation: $25.00 per hour.
• Benefits: Eligible for district health insurance, including a district contribution of $259/month.
• This is a one-year non-renewal position. Candidates must reapply every year.
• 170 day work calendar.
