Job summary

State of Oregon’s Department of Human Services seeks a Permanency Worker (Social Service Specialist 1) to support child safety, stability, and permanency. You will assess needs, coordinate services, and document plans while collaborating with families, schools, and partners.

The role requires a qualifying degree and strong crisis intervention, communication, and case-management skills to help vulnerable children and families. A cover letter is required and travel is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field required.
• Experience in child protective investigations and custody determinations may be required; degree must be completed.
• Two years of human services related experience for associate degree path.

Responsibilities

• Monitor safety, well-being, and development of children in care.
• Keep accurate case records and required documentation.
• Facilitate and observe parent–child visits, provide coaching, and arrange transportation.
• Maintain contact with families and update safety and service plans.
• Coordinate services, referrals, and track progress for children and families.
• Prepare reports, participate in court hearings and review boards.
• Collaborate with caregivers, schools, service providers, and ODHS partners to support child stability and permanency.
