Job description

Job Summary:

Under general, supervision, conduct non-invasive vascular studies including ultrasound, prepares test results, maintains equipment and vascular database.

Essential Responsibilities:

+ Patient Procedures and Activities: Explain test procedures and purpose. Demonstrate equipment for patient. Assist physician in developing new techniques and procedures. Assist provider in patient examinations and procedures. Consult with provider concerning procedures and patient condition. Follow standard infection control procedures. Lift patients. Modify treatment techniques that do not required change in physician orders. Monitor and evaluate test reading during procedures. Observe, monitor and evaluate patient condition during and after procedures. Prepare and position patients for diagnostic tests and medical procedures. Respond to emergencies (i.e. stat pages, Code blue) and stat request. Transport patients to and from procedure area. Assist physician during ultrasound examinations. Perform non-invasive peripheral vascular studies. Assist physician in locating tumors. Perform ultrasound diagnostic procedures. Laboratories: Develop film and make prints. Clean procedure room and work area. Dispose properly of laboratory specimens and or waste material. Sterilize contaminated tubes and materials. Assign identification number to specimens. Records and Patients Information: Schedule patient appointments, operations and procedures. Record and chart patient data. Interview patients and collect patient data. Take patient medical and prescription history. Review patient charts to evaluate patients and identify significant conditions. Compile data for Quality Assurance. Complete diagnostic examination requisitions, forms and records. Prepare exam results for interpretation by physician. Read and/or interpret tracings and note findings. Read and assess diagnostic test abnormalities. Consult with physician concerning test results and alert physicians to positive test results or test abnormalities. Issue report on findings. Look up and report test results as requested. Prepare lab worksheets. Call provider on positive test results.

+ Perform accurate measurements and calculations on diagnostic test procedures. Index studies for future reference. Scan, read and calculate machine tracings. Maintain current records of all testing. Record and maintain daily log and files of complete studies, and log of procedures. Prepare periodic workload statistics. Equipment and Instruments & Materials and Supplies: Ensure equipment is available for procedures and examinations. Calibrate and adjust equipment in preparation for and during procedures. Check emergency equipment. Load paper and tape into computer printer. Prepare and process packs, supplies, equipment and instruments. Prepare procedure and exam rooms. Restock operating, procedure, cast and examination rooms. Select and set out appropriate tubes and sterile supplies. Set up instruments and surgical trays. Operate ultrasound equipment including B-mode and real-time equipment. Operate mobile ultrasound equipment. Maintain sterilized supplies, instruments, and equipment for surgical procedures. Receive, sort and decontaminate equipment. Soak instruments. Clean and sterilize instruments, supplies and equipment. Arrange for repair of equipment. Maintain equipment in good working order. Perform minor adjustments and/or repairs on equipment. Test equipment. Fill requests for equipment and Supplies. Maintain and order supplies. Dispose of expendable medical supplies, and used syringes and contaminated materials. Inventory equipment and supplies. Maintain solutions, chemicals and automatic equipment. Replenish supplies and equipment. Administrative and other: Coordinate department activities with other departments. Orient and train new or less experienced personnel. Provide functional direction to assigned staff. Attend conferences, meetings and in-service training programs. Serve as resource person to co-worker by answering procedural questions and assisting in problem solving. Maintain current licensure and certification. Maintain proficiency in clinical skills. Answer telephones and take messages. Assume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.

+ Registered Vascular Technician Certificate from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers OR Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Certificate from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers OR Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
