Job summary

Inova Health System in Leesburg, VA is seeking a Perioperative Support Specialist 2 to assist with patient care and to retrieve and deliver supplies and instruments to operating rooms as directed by the surgical team. The role requires advanced knowledge of aseptic surgical technique and collaboration across clinical disciplines.

The position supports operating room staff and surgeons to minimize procedure delays, with opportunities for professional development in a leading regional healthcare

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• 2 years of hospital experience.
• BLS certification from American Heart Association required on start.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates transfer/positioning of patients in the operating room and assists with patient surgical prep as directed by nursing staff.
• Prepares the operating room for cases by opening sterile supplies/instruments and maintaining aseptic technique.
• Reads and understands OR schedule and preference cards to prepare for next surgical encounter.
• Retrieves and delivers requested supplies and instruments to Operating Rooms to minimize circulating nurse's time out of the room.
• Gathers and packs instruments and sterile supplies for scheduled and added cases to provide efficient procedure setup.
• Checks and validates case carts.
• Sets up rooms for the next day with standard equipment.
• Takes specimens and cultures to lab as needed.
• Maintains Temperature Logs.
• Submits tickets to Engineering to ensure a safe environment of care for our patients and team members.
• Supports additional projects or duties as assigned.

The Perioperative Support Specialist 2 assists with patient care while retrieving and delivering requested supplies, instruments and equipment to the operating rooms as directed by the surgical team. This role demonstrates professional and advanced knowledge of aseptic surgical technique and surgical procedures. Provides equipment support for operating room staff and surgeons before and/or during the operative procedures to avoid procedure and turnover delays.

Perioperative Support Specialist 2 Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education:High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:2 years of hospital experience.

Certification:Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association (AHA) upon start

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience within surgical services preferred.

Previous experience supporting a perioperative/OR environment preferred.
