Job summary

Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama is growing and seeks a Perioperative Support Associate I (PSA) to join the Surgery team in the Main Operating Room. This full-time, day-shift role supports patient transport, OR sanitation and supplies maintenance.

Under the supervision of the RN and anesthesia provider, you will assist with positioning, move and lift patients, transport specimens, and stock OR areas to ensure smooth perioperative operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma is required.
• Current BLS certification is required.
• Prior OR experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Clean stretchers, OR tables, equipment and rooms.
• Transport postoperative patients to the recovery unit and relay information promptly.
• Perform operating room sanitation tasks.
• Stock operating room with supplies.
• Check, count and stock supplies in warmers, cabinets and substerile areas.
• Transport patient specimens, cultures, blood and body fluids to pathology, radiology and the lab.
• Assist with moving and lifting patients, supplies and equipment.
• Report defective material or equipment to supervisor.
• Assist with positioning of patients under supervision and sterile gloving.
• Transport and deliver items, equipment and medications throughout the facility.
• Maintain regular attendance as per policy.

Position Summary

Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital IS GROWING and we are looking to add a Perioperative Support Associate I (PSA)to work with our Surgery team in our Main Operating Room. This will be a Full-time role working day shift.

The PSA participates as a member of the perioperative nursing team. The primary focus of this position is patient, specimen and equipment transport, OR sanitation and assistance with maintenance of unit supply levels.

Responsibilities

• Specific duties include cleaning stretchers, O.R. tables, equipment and rooms.
• May assist the registered nurse and anesthetist in transporting postoperative patients to the recovery unit. Conveys and receives information in a timely manner.
• Performs operating room sanitation tasks.
• Stocks operating room with supplies.
• Checks, counts and stocks supplies (warmers, cabinets, bovies, substerile/supply rooms, linen and bags).
• Transports patient specimens, cultures, blood and body fluids to pathology, radiology and the laboratory.
• Provides assistance with moving and lifting patients, supplies and equipment.
• Reports defective material or equipment to supervisor.
• Under the direct supervision of the Registered nurse and/or anesthesia provider, may assist with positioning of patients for procedures and performs sterile gloving without contamination and holds extremities during patient preparation.
• Transports and delivers items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
• May have limited access to areas storing medications.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education/Training

• High School diploma or equivalent.

Licensure/Certification

• Maintains current BLS/HealthCare certification.

Experience

• Prior OR experience is desired
