Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join the dedicated and dynamic team in Bexley Wing Theatres at St. James’s University Hospital. Our Bexley Wing Theatre department is well established and consists of four operating theatres delivering high-quality, specialised care for patients undergoing Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery, Gynae Oncology Surgery and Thoracic Surgery. We also carry out innovative Robotic Surgery in each of these specialities. The Bexley Wing Theatre Department predominantly carries out major elective surgery and is required to run a service for six out of seven days (Saturday working is expected). Our working hours are 08:00-18:00 but there is an expectation to be flexible around start and finish times due to the nature of the surgery that we carry out.

There will be an expectation for the successful candidate to work in all specialities (Upper GI, Gynae Oncology, Thoracic and Robotic) in a scrub capacity, anaesthetic capacity or both. The candidate may also be required to occasionally work in other specialities to meet service demand. This will give them the opportunity to expand on their current skills and experience. The successful candidate will be expected to complete a ‘Passport to Practice’ preceptorship programme to gain knowledge and experience relative to the role. During this period, a group of supportive, highly skilled practitioners will support the candidate to become a competent practitioner in Bexley Wing Theatres.

Why you should join our Team

New and innovative practices mean that the candidate will be working in a department in one of the country’s leading teaching hospitals. If you are someone who enjoys working as part of a dynamic team, delivering a high standard of patient care and enjoys the day to day challenges that the operating theatres can bring then Bexley Wing Theatres may just be for you.

What You Will Bring To The Role

To provide and be responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for the Peri-operative patient. To carry out all relevant forms of care competently without direct supervision.
