Job summary

Vanderbilt Health in Nashville seeks a Certified Surgical First Assistant to operate as CST First Assistant under the surgeon, handling positioning, prepping and draping the patient, and providing hemostasis and tissue exposure. The role may also serve as a Surgical Technologist when not First Assisting.

PRN opportunity within Perioperative Services, requiring strong teamwork and adherence to aseptic principles. 3+ years of experience and board registration are required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved discipline specific program.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience.
• Registration with the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners.
• Certification options include NBSTSA CST; NSAA; NCCSA; ABSA.

Responsibilities

• Assist with room preparation, setup and cleanup.
• Open sterile items required for procedures.
• Position, prep and drape patient for surgery.
• Provide hemostasis and tissue handling under surgeon guidance.
• Maintain a sterile field and safe patient positioning.
• Support intraoperative asepsis and instrument handling.
