Job summary

Lehigh Valley Health Network is seeking a patient transporter to support the operating room team at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Dickson City in the evening shift. You will assist with transporting patients to and from the OR, help position and transfer anesthetized patients, and support cleaning and turnover between cases.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, mature judgment, and BLS certification.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Mature and conscientious behavior.
• Sound judgment and basic technical skills.
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Participates in activities to increase OR productivity and efficiency.
• Promotes a positive patient experience by supporting the surgical team.

Summary

Assists nursing staff in the rooms with patient care by positioning, transferring of anesthetized patients, and cleaning operating rooms at the conclusion of surgical cases. Provides general non–technical assistance to the nursing staff.

Job Duties

• Participates in activities designed to increase the productivity and efficiency of the operating room.
• Promotes a positive patient surgical experience by partnering with the surgical team to provide excellence in customer service within the surgical environment with age-appropriate responsibilities.
• Assists with the transportation of patients to and from the operating room.
• Ensures availability of instruments and supplies needed and assists with opening of supplies and instruments.
• Provides emotional support during pre-operative contact with the patient, as observed by the unit and department nurses.
• Performs effective cleaning and disinfection of the operating rooms after surgical cases
• Performs appropriate care and handling of patient specimens

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED
• Demonstrates mature and conscientious behavior.
• Demonstrates sound judgment and technical skills.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania within 90 Days

Additional Qualifications

• Physical Demands Lift and carry 40-50 lbs.
• Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight.
• Frequent to continuous standing/walking.
• Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift.
• *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
