    ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

    Collaborates with perioperative health care and surgical services team members in the provision of safe, high quality patient care. Serves as a liaison to identify and take action as delegated on service needs associated with the care of the patient.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    Functions as a member of the perioperative team; performing clerical and clinical duties for nursing staff, patients, and departmental leadership. Provides support to the daily operations in perioperative processes. All functions within their scope of service are performed under the supervision and delegation of a registered nurse.

    ACCOUNTABILITIES

    Provides clerical support and assistance with nursing care tasks in assigned areas of responsibility.

    1. Observes and reports changes and unusual occurrences to appropriate team members.

    2. Performs duties of other team members within the perioperative attendant scope of education, training and experience, as required and communicates results under the direction of clinical staff. These tasks include, but are not limited to vital signs, surgical preparation, etc. Completes education and training on applicable devices and maintains annual competencies in established policy and procedure.

    3. Coordinates the physical transfer of patients from Pre-Op/PACU to nursing units/ICU’s. Ensures the safety and comfort of the patient at all times during transport. Exhibits a working knowledge of the facility and related departments. Utilizes safe patient handling transfer mechanisms according to established policy to ensure personal and patient safety.

    4. Facilitates communication within the department, demonstrates excellent guest relations with patients, physicians, co-workers and ancillary departments.

    5. Performs patient diagnostic and therapeutic tasks as delegated by clinical staff such as EKG, glucometer, warming and cooling devices, etc. Completes competency education and training on applicable devices.

    6. Maintains the orderliness and cleanliness of the patient care environment and associated areas. Maintaining specified safety JCAHO standards.

    7. Maintains supply inventories in assigned areas keeping within established par levels.

    8. Performs other duties as assigned.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: High school diploma or equivalent

    Skills: Basic knowledge of computer systems used in specified area.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: Medical terminology

    Years of Experience: One or more years nursing assistant and/or unit clerk experience

    Certification: BLS

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Personal Protective Equipment: Safe patient handling equipment. Isolation equipment appropriate to category. Physical Demands: Must be able to frequently move, lift or carry light to medium weight materials. Must be able to tolerate exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals, temperature changes, and possible exposure to blood and bodily fluids. Must be able to occasionally and with assistance, be able to move heavy weight materials, equipment or patients. Must be able to operate area specific equipment.
