Position

Peri Operative Assistant – Operating Room / IPP

Schedule

40 hours, rotate Day/Evening, every 3rd weekend (7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.)

Position Summary

Under general supervision, assists in the clean‑up of operating rooms and associated surgical areas, and prepares rooms for surgical procedures. Maintains a safe and sanitary environment by performing cleaning and disinfecting tasks, proper storage and handling of equipment, and stocking supplies according to hospital/department policy and procedures.

Essential Responsibilities / Duties
  • Reports to and receives direction from the Nurse Manager at the beginning of the shift.
  • Assists the Charge Nurse or nursing managers with various resources as requested.
  • Demonstrates ability to organize time evidenced by completion of work assignments within shift.
  • Performs assigned duties to assist nursing staff in safe, efficient delivery of patient care.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean, sanitary and safe environment.
  • Maintains effective inventory control system.
Job Requirements
Education

High school diploma or state high‑school equivalency (GED). Additional training beyond high school preferred.

Experience

Working knowledge of basic housekeeping and cleaning procedures, particularly as it relates to surgical areas. On‑the‑job training will be provided.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Detail oriented and able to read, write and understand specific instructions in English.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to work with various clinical personnel, resolve problems, and properly identify and label supplies for inventory purposes.
  • Observes “Standard Precautions” by wearing protective clothing, gloves, goggles, and safe handling practices.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while operating equipment, arranging instrument trays, equipment carts, conducting inventory, and dispensing supplies.
  • Ability to push/pull carts of instruments and/or equipment.
  • Multilingual skills beyond English in languages appropriate to patient populations served by Boston Medical Center are preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills.
Compensation and Benefits

Compensation Range: $20.68 – $25.20 per hour.
