JOB TITLE

OPERATING ROOM PERIOPERATIVE NURSE SUPERVISOR-Thoracic, Vascular & Endovascular

Leadership position to include clinical, supervisor, and administrative duties relevant to surgical operations. The Perioperative Nurse Supervisor must demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of clinical and technical aspects of procedures performed in the Operating Room. The Perioperative Nurse Supervisor is responsible for functioning in the role of team/patient facilitator. Assists with orientation, training, and education of personnel. Acts as a liaison between surgeons, management, and team members to facilitate.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Serves in a leadership role, collaborating and coordinating patient care activities in the Operating Room

Acts as a liaison between physicians and leadership team with pertinent and ongoing communication.

Collaborates with Anesthesia, Surgical Access Unit/Pre-Op, and Post Anesthesia Unit Staff to promote effective patient flow throughout the perioperative department.

Facilitates the daily Operating Room schedule and the coordination of service line resources.

Assumes the Charge RN as assigned.

Direct, supervise and assign staff with an awareness of skill level.

Promotes a safe environment initiates appropriate action in emergency situations, demonstrates awareness and control of hazards which may endanger patients, visitors, and employees, identifies environmental concerns by participating on unit rounds.

Ensures adherence to appropriate regulatory standards and the AHS Policies and Procedures

Performs all aspects of clinical patient care as assigned.

Coordinates with schedulers, vendors and SPD to ensure appropriate instruments and supply are available to support surgical cases.

Responsible and accountable for participation in quality and performance improvement activities; departmental and organizational goals to improve patient outcomes.

Utilizes literature, research and evidence-based practice to improve patient care and nursing practice keeping specialty team members up to date with education and in-service opportunities.

Actively promotes and participates in unit-based Shared Governance initiatives.

Maintains professional competency by participating in continuing education and appropriate learning experiences both internal and external.

Assist the Nurse Manager or designee in achieving an environment of excellence in clinical safety, quality, and service. Reports safety events in real time.
