As a critical member of the women’s health diagnostics team, Perinatal Ultrasound Technologists (or baby sonographers) get that first look at an unborn fetus. Using your analytical and critical thinking skills to problem-solve, you focus on every task producing images that shed light on OB-GYN and perinatal conditions. As you perform amniocentesis, chorionic villi sampling, and other Maternal Fetal Medicine procedures, you realize the privilege that comes with being a witness to a woman’s personal healthcare moments. Your Everyday
Demonstrate proficient technical skills and knowledge in use of all ultrasound/sonography equipment, protocols, procedures and producing quality imaging of internal organs.
Perform transabdominal and transvaginal scans to obtain detailed fetal anatomic exams, umbilical artery and middle cerebral artery Doppler studies, biophysical profiles, nuchal translucency exams, 2D/3D imaging studies, and cervical lengths.
Expand the scope of examination according to any abnormality identified
Select appropriate transducer and settings for the study. Assist with invasive procedures such as amniocentesis, chorionic villi sampling, and other MFM procedures and monitor patient's vital signs.
Review physician orders with the Radiologist to ensure the proper examination and diagnostic results.
Prepare and review procedure with patient to obtain clinical history/informed consent, educate, ease anxiety, answer questions and address concerns to ensure patient cooperation.
Recognize clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams and take appropriate action for a positive outcome.
Maintain knowledge of fetal anatomy and fetal circulatory system, evaluate critical test findings, and review anatomic details and abnormalities with radiologists if needed.
Maintain inventory of supplies and orders as needed.
Maintain equipment, exam rooms and work areas in a neat and safe condition to ensure the safety of the patients and employees.
Check and inspect the suite, clean and assess equipment daily for physical or mechanical hazards immediately reporting dangerous conditions to the appropriate team member.
Ensure continuity of care, efficient throughput, consistent communications, and an exceptional experience for every patient.
Verify all images and documentation are sent to the MFM electronic documentation.
The Must-Haves
Minimum
Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Sonography.
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
Sonography certification – Fetal Nuchal Translucency Certification - Fetal Medicine Foundation
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification
1 year of MFM sonography in an outpatient setting.
