Job Description

Positions are Monday through Friday, day hours. No on-call required.

Job Summary

Performs ultrasound and diagnostic procedures on high-risk obstetrical patients while adhering to all organizational and unit policies and procedures, as well as following the patient schedule in a timely manner. He/She is competent to provide care for patients from adolescents to adults.

Essential Functions

  1. Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and staff consistent with Jefferson's values.
  2. Performs ultrasound examinations of prenatal patients following protocols established by the Medical Director of the Maternal Fetal Medicine department and national guidelines, including:
    • Level 1 and 2 ultrasound examinations.
    • Doppler flow studies.
    • Transvaginal ultrasound examinations.
    • Assists physicians with invasive uterine procedures (Amniocentesis, CVS).
    • Maintains sterile field during procedures.
    • Reviews images and participates in reading sessions.
    • Performs additional images when needed.
    • Accepts and performs add-on and emergency patients responsibly.
  3. Maintains records and documentation including:
    • Records patient data.
    • Ensures accuracy of patient information.
    • Completes patient reports and schedules follow-up appointments.
    • Inputs data into reporting system.
  4. Provides education and maintains ultrasound equipment including:
    • Educates obstetrical residents in basic ultrasound.
    • Enters all necessary data and patient information into ultrasound reporting system.
    • Ensures consistent and optimal function of equipment, taking corrective actions as needed.
    • Maintains a clean ultrasound machine and work area.
    • Attends mandatory hospital and/or sonographic in-services and maintains current knowledge through continuing education.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required):

Annual Trophon EPR high-level disinfection competency training.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education: Graduate of an AIUM approved ultrasound program.

Experience: 1+ years of perinatal/obstetrical ultrasound experience. Amnio and CVS experience preferred. Experience in an antenatal testing center is a plus.

Minimum Certifications, Registration or License Requirements:

Current RDMS with OB/GYN specialty or eligibility (must obtain OB/GYN specialty within 6 months of hire and maintain certification). NT and cervical length certification preferred (must obtain within 6 months). Fetal echo certification preferred (must obtain within 1 year).

Additional Information

EMR experience preferred. Strong computer skills, knowledge of medical terminology, excellent communication skills, and professional interaction with healthcare professionals are required.
