Reports to the Practice Manager. The Perinatal Sonographer utilizes high-frequency sound waves along with color and spectral Doppler ultrasound to assist in the assessment of fetal anatomy, fetal growth, and fetal well-being. Performs ultrasound scans and procedures requiring independent judgment and a high degree of skill in the application of ultrasound equipment. Follows protocols and procedures as directed by the Medical Director and/or Perinatal Sonographer Lead. Ensures quality patient care and collaborates with physicians through research functions.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Perform Ultrasound Scans (OB/GYN, Abdominal, Doppler, Vascular) following prescribed protocols.
  2. Gather pertinent clinical history, communicate with healthcare providers, and document reports.
  3. Explain procedures to patients, practice sterile techniques, and assess patient condition.
  4. Select appropriate transducers and utilize digital storage systems.
  5. Instruct patients, assist with transfers, and adjust scanning parameters for optimal images.
  6. Obtain diagnostic images and assist with procedures like amniocentesis and Doppler assessments.
  7. Demonstrate fetal markers of aneuploidy and assist with in-office ultrasound procedures.
  8. Contribute to research, develop relationships with physicians, and participate in educational activities.
  9. Maintain supplies, prepare reports, and perform other departmental duties.
  10. Adhere to organizational policies, attend meetings, and complete mandatory training.
  11. Maintain licensure and certifications, including BCLS/CPR, and participate in on-call rotations.
Qualifications
  • Graduate from a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program with ARDMS certification in OB/GYN, FMF 1st Trimester, and Clear certification.
  • 2-3 years of ultrasound experience, preferably with obstetric/high-risk patients.
  • Proficiency in amniocentesis, fetal markers of aneuploidy, and Doppler assessments.
  • Excellent communication, manual dexterity, and computer skills.
  • Ability to perform fetal echo-cardiology testing and handle multiple gestations.
  • Availability for on-call weekend rotations.
Working Conditions
  • Physical stamina to stand/walk for prolonged periods, lift patients/equipment, and perform CPR.
