Job summary

The University of Virginia Health System seeks a Patient Care Technician in Perianesthesia to support patients before, during, and after surgery. You will work with nurses, providers, and the perioperative team to ensure compassionate, safe care and smooth patient flow.

Responsibilities include direct and indirect patient care, preparing the clinical environment, assisting with admissions, collecting specimens, and maintaining supplies.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• AHA BLS certification required; exceptions apply for non-certified hires prior to May 11, 2026.
• Must have one of the following Virginia credentials: CNA, EMT, Combat Medic/TCC, LPN, nursing program graduate, PCT certification, or enrolled nursing students with clinical experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate patient care across ages and conditions.
• Assist with comfort, personal hygiene, mobility, positioning and activities of daily living.
• Follow nursing and medical plans of care and UVA Health policies.
• Observe patients and communicate concerns to RN or provider.
• Assist with admissions and collection of specimens as directed.
• Maintain supplies and equipment and support the perioperative team.
• Collaborate with nurses, providers and anesthesia professionals to support patient care.
