Job summary

Apsurgery in Indiana seeks an experienced peri-operative nurse to provide comprehensive nursing care and act as a patient advocate within a collaborative health‑care team.

You will coordinate patient care across the peri-operative pathway, uphold patient rights, and ensure safety through adherence to standards and procedures while handling instruments and medications.

Qualifications

• Current Indiana nursing license.
• CPR certification or ACLS within orientation.
• PALS certification within one year for PACU/Phase II RN's.
• Minimum of two years nursing experience, preferably ambulatory.
• Must pass medication administration exam.
• Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills.
• Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and peri-operative equipment or ability to learn.
• Prolonged standing and walking required.
• Ability to lift and transport patients and equipment up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and organize work.
• Ability to work under stress in peri-operative environments.
• Manual dexterity, hearing, and near vision requirements.
• RN/LPN will have full access to medical records.

Responsibilities

• Assess the physiological health status of the patient.
• Assess the psychological health status of the patient/family.
• Establish realistic goals based on nursing diagnosis and develop a care plan.
• Implement nursing actions to transfer the patient.
• Provide equipment and supplies based on patient needs.
• Perform sponge, sharps and instrument counts.
• Administer drugs and solutions as prescribed.
• Physiologically monitor the patient during the peri-operative phase.

Job description

Utilizes the nursing process to provide comprehensive nursing care. Coordinates total patient care in coordination with other health team members, particularly the Center's team. Functions as a patient advocate utilizing the Patient's Bill of Rights. Demonstrates professional growth and development by accepting responsibility and accountability for one's nursing practice.

HIPAA Compliance

1. RN/LPN will have full access to medical records.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. Current Indiana license.

1. Current CPR certification or certification obtained by completion of orientation. ACLS

certification required within one year of hire. PALS certification required for all PACU and

Phase II RN's within one year of hire.

1. Minimum of two (2) years nursing experience, preferably in an ambulatory setting.

1. Required to successfully complete medication administration exam provided.

1. Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills.

1. Prior knowledge of surgical instrumentation and peri-operative equipment or ability to learn same.

1. Requires prolonged periods of standing and walking.

1. Requires ability to perform lifting and transport of patients; and lifting of instrument trays and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.

1. Ability to work with a minimum of supervision and to organize work in order of importance.

1. Ability to work effectively in stressful situations and in a variety of peri-operative environments.

1. Requires manual dexterity to operate equipment and handle instrumentation, hearing to understand verbal instructions and near vision to distinguish supplies and instrumentation.

Working Conditions

1. Accountability to Executive Director, Clinical Director, and/or Peri-Operative Manager/Charge Nurse.

1. Normal peri-operative environment with exposure to chemical odors, cleaning solvents and other hazardous materials. Must follow established procedures to ensure safety.

1. Exposure to possible injury when working with electrical equipment and lasers, which require care and following proper safety procedures.
