Job summary

Catholic Health is seeking a Per Diem Perfusionist to provide comprehensive perfusion services for adult cardiac procedures, ECMO, and related therapies. You will operate heart-lung machines, manage anticoagulation, and document procedures under NY guidelines.

Eligible candidates must have NY licensure, BLS, and CCP certification or eligibility; two years of independent perfusion experience preferred; per diem schedule with strong team collaboration and ongoing education.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited perfusion education program acceptable for New York State licensure.
  • Minimum of two years of independent clinical experience as a cardiovascular perfusionist.
  • Current New York State Licensed Perfusionist (or eligible to obtain licensure prior to date of hire).
  • BLS - American Heart Association.
  • Certification by the ABCP as CCP, or eligibility to obtain certification as required by hospital policy.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cardiopulmonary bypass for adult cardiac surgical procedures.
  • Operate and monitor heart-lung machines and associated extracorporeal circulation equipment.
  • Initiate, maintain, and discontinue extracorporeal circulation while continuously assessing patient physiologic status.
  • Prepare, prime, troubleshoot, and maintain perfusion equipment prior to and during procedures.
  • Manage anticoagulation, blood conservation strategies, ultrafiltration, and autologous blood recovery as appropriate.
  • Provide clinical support for ECMO, including initiation, management, troubleshooting, and transport when required.
  • Assist with mechanical circulatory support devices and other advanced perfusion technologies as assigned.
  • Accurately document all perfusion procedures in accordance with standards.
  • Participate in emergency call coverage and respond promptly to emergent cardiovascular procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention, patient safety, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain all required certifications, licensure, and continuing education requirements.
  • Perform other duties related to perfusion services as assigned.

Job Details

The Per Diem Perfusionist is responsible for providing comprehensive perfusion services for adult cardiac surgical procedures and mechanical circulatory support therapies. Under the direction of the attending Cardiac Surgeon and Chief of Perfusion, the Perfusionist operates and manages extracorporeal circulation equipment, provides circulatory and respiratory support during cardiovascular procedures, and ensures the safe delivery of perfusion services in accordance with departmental policies, professional standards, and New York State regulations. The position supports scheduled cardiac surgery, emergency procedures, ECMO, and other perfusion-related services as needed.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities


  • Perform cardiopulmonary bypass for adult cardiac surgical procedures

  • Operate and monitor heart-lung machines and associated extracorporeal circulation equipment

  • Initiate, maintain, and discontinue extracorporeal circulation while continuously assessing patient physiologic status

  • Prepare, prime, troubleshoot, and maintain perfusion equipment prior to and during procedures

  • Manage anticoagulation, blood conservation strategies, ultrafiltration, and autologous blood recovery as appropriate

  • Provide clinical support for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), including initiation, management, troubleshooting, and transport when required

  • Assist with mechanical circulatory support devices and other advanced perfusion technologies as assigned

  • Accurately document all perfusion procedures in accordance with departmental, regulatory, and accreditation standards

  • Participate in emergency call coverage and respond promptly to emergent cardiovascular procedures

  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention, patient safety, and quality improvement initiatives

  • Maintain all required certifications, licensure, and continuing education requirements

  • Perform other duties related to perfusion services as assigned


Education


  • Graduate of an accredited perfusion education program acceptable for New York State licensure.


Experience


  • Minimum of two (2) years of independent clinical experience as a cardiovascular perfusionist in an adult cardiac surgery program.


Licensure/Certification


  • Current New York State Licensed Perfusionist (or eligible to obtain licensure prior to date of hire).

  • BLS - American Hear Association

  • Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) as a Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP), or eligibility to obtain certification as required by hospital policy.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Five (5) or more years of clinical experience as a cardiovascular perfusionist.

  • Experience with adult ECMO management.

  • Experience with blood conservation techniques including cell salvage.

  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to function effectively in high-acuity, fast-paced environments.


Salary Range

USD $151.00 - USD $151.00 /Hr.

The salary range or rate listed does not include any bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job, and it does not include the value of benefits.
