Job summary

C-Care Wellkin is seeking a Perfusionist to operate the heart-lung machine during cardiac and other procedures, ensuring circulatory and respiratory support in collaboration with the surgical and anesthesia teams.

The role requires 3–5 years of clinical perfusion experience, strong technical skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure while working with surgeons, anaesthetists, and nurses to optimise patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Perfusion Technology or equivalent.
• Registration with the relevant professional council (where applicable).
• 3–5 years of clinical perfusion experience; adult and/or paediatric cardiac surgery is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor the heart-lung machine during open-heart surgery and other procedures requiring cardiopulmonary bypass.
• Manage extracorporeal circulation to maintain the patient’s physiological and metabolic needs.
• Prepare, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot perfusion equipment, ensuring readiness and safety.
• Administer blood products, medications, and fluids via the perfusion circuit as required.
• Monitor and record physiological parameters such as blood flow, blood gases, and temperature during procedures.
• Work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, and nurses to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and infection control protocols.

Job Purpose

The Perfusionist is responsible for operating the heart-lung machine and other extracorporeal circulation equipment during cardiac and other surgical procedures. The role ensures that patients’ circulatory and respiratory functions are maintained and supported throughout surgery, in collaboration with the surgical and anaesthesia teams.

Key Responsibilities
